Our suggested 7-day itinerary starts in the Western Australian town of Norseman. Leaving Norseman, make your way to the border where you will see the coastline and experience Australia’s longest straight road, being an amazing 145.6 kilometres long! If travelling the Nullarbor Plain from app. June until September, you are almost guaranteed to see Southern Right Whales, this is the frequency of their migration along the coast. We recommend a stop at the Head of the Bight Centre is highly recommended, particularly if travelling May to September when the Southern Right Whales come in the Bight to mate and give birth.
There are viewing platforms on the coast that provide excellent ocean views and opportunities to see the whales. We also recommend you keep your eyes open for wildlife, which is particularly active at sunrise and sunset and includes camels, eagles, emus and very large kangaroos! If you must travel the Nullarbor Plain at night, we recommend you take extreme care as animals are common and they can do a large amount of damage to your vehicle if you are unfortunate enough to hit one.
